Hills of 1909
Art center,
Holmes County, OH

au 2017—10

Holmes County is home to the largest Amish population in the world.  However, the site’s immediate context does not emulate the fine vernacular craft and idyllic nature that exists further beyond. This art center uses Koolhaas’ 1909 theorm to create a stacked series of worlds which reconnect vistitors to their surroundings. Curved floorplates blend these worlds together, remind visitors of their hilly commut there, and provide curated view of local landmarks. Additionally, enclosed rooms behave like barns in a field rather than floors on a typical building.
